See the beauty
The present location of St. Bartholomew's which opened in 1918, is actually its third location in New York City. Its famous dome and the majority of its interior decorations were added between 1929 and 1930, while the adjacent Community House is believed to date back from 1972. The style of the present church was chosen based on the need for harmony for the Romanesque portal with its three sets of bronze doors (a part of the previous church) and they desire for a space where the preacher could be heard and seen by everyone.
Music for your ears with your New York car rentals
Music is highly prized and valued at St. Bartholomew's. Music enhances the parish life, allowing the church to diversify its worship style while still maintaining its roots in the Anglican choral tradition. St. Bartholomew's offers a choral program for musicians of all ages and abilities, regardless of religious affiliation. St. Bartholomew's Church has also had some of America's greatest names in church music to hold the positions of Director iof Music including Leopold Stokowski, David McK. Williams and Harold Friedell. If you come and visit St. Bartholomew's with your New York car rental company AAMCAR during the summer moths check out the schedule for the Great Music Series of concerts. These special concerts are one of the most extensive in the city and include a mix of large choral works, organ recitals, orchestra concerts, chamber music, and jazz are offered in the church and chapel and nominal cost.
In the heart of St. Bartholomew's is a grand pipe organ. Considered to be one of the finest organs in the world, it is the highlight of St. Bartholomew's music program. With its rich resources and containing 168 stops, the organ built by Aeolian/Skinner Organ Company makes for a wonderful accompaniment in hymn singing, choral music, and organ literature.
