The Original Six Era
When the NHL was first formed it contained only six teams: the Boston Bruins, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. Referred to as Texs Rangers (after the teams manager) the New York hockey squad was ultra talented, winning the first ever American Division title in 1926. The next year marked the first of four Stanley Cup wins for the team, as the Rangers steamrolled the Montreal Maroons (now the Montreal Canadiens). Of course no win is ever easy, and the Rangers were forced to overcome some pretty impressive obstacles during their 1927 Stanley Cup match-up! During the first period the Rangers suffer a major setback as goaltender Lorne Chabot became injured early on in the game. No backup goalie was currently installed on the team, creating complete and utter dismay on the Ranger bench. In the end the teams coach, Lester Patrick, suited up and saved the team, rally against intense opposition and unbelievable odds! The Rangers won their second and third Stanley Cups in 1933 and 1940, defeating the mighty Toronto Maple Leafs both times.Recent History
The New York Rangers have recently entered an age of disappointment after capturing the Stanley Cup for a fourth time during the 1993-1994 season. Numerous coaching changes and player trades have plagued the team, creating immense unbalance amongst team members and franchise associates. Despite having the leagues highest payroll, the New York Rangers missed the playoffs for three consecutive years between 2000 and 2004, causing many fans to lose hope in their beloved Red, White and Blue. But dont give up just yet! The New York Rangers were currently in the process of rebuilding the team before last years lockout, so its safe to say that you can expect to see plenty of fresh new faces suiting up this September!Legendary Players
The New York Rangers have been with the National Hockey League for close to 80 years now, providing fans with intense rivalries and stunning athleticism. Countless iconic players have also had the privilege of sporting the Red, White and Blue during their careers, including the following members of the Hockey Hall of Fame:- Frank Boucher
- Bill Gadsby
- Harry Howell
- Babe Pratt
- Allan Stanely
- Gump Worsely
