Founded in 1904 by Judge Mayer Sulzberger, the Jewish Museum is currently one of New York Citys most culturally inquisitive institutions providing AAMCAR New York Car Rental customers with a source of inspiration and knowledge. Over the past 100 years the Jewish Museum has taken on a major role within its NYC community, encouraging travelers to take part in a wide variety of culturally diverse exhibitions. A special source of identity and understanding for thousands of New York City residents, the Jewish Museum currently features over 28,000 artifacts, paintings, photographs, ceremonial objects and broadcast media clips. Home to the most extensive collection of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, the Jewish Museum demonstrates a complete kaleidoscope of creativity and cultural acceptance. The Jewish Museum is open to the public Sunday through Wednesday 11am to 5:45pm, Thursday 11am to 8pm and Friday 11am to 3pm.
Museum Facilities
The Jewish Museum of NYC is currently home to a wide variety of research and leisure facilities designed to cater to the needs of both Jewish and non-Jewish AAMCAR New York Car Rental travelers. Since the completion of an ambitious expansion program in mid-1993, the Jewish Museum has proudly displayed nearly double the amount of original gallery space, an added permanent collection display, numerous classroom spaces and an extensive auditorium intended for further educational purposes. The Jewish Museum is also proud to provide AAMCAR New York Car Rentals customers with exclusive access to two stunning museum gift shops, The Cooper Shop and Celebrations, The Jewish Museum Design Shop, as well as a tasty in-house restaurant, Caf Weissman. Caf Weissman is operated by Foremost Glatt Kosher Caterers and features an innovative menu of kosher cuisine.
Daily Tours
If youre interested in learning more about specific exhibitions and displays at the Jewish Museum, AAMCAR New York Car Rentals recommends participating in any one of the museums scheduled daily tours. These docent-led information sessions are provided free of charge with your admission to the museum ($10 general, students and seniors $7.50, children under 12 get in free of charge), and last for approximately 45 minute. Instead of running various tours of the entire museum, certain time slots have been allotted for every exhibit currently on display, providing AAMCAR New York Car Rental customers with plenty of time to browse the museum on their own. Tours normally begin at a quarter after the hour and begin in the museums lobby. Special adult group tour packages are also available within the museum, including a delicious Continental Breakfast Tour Package, a sugary Afternoon Sweets Package and numerous Restaurant Discount Packages. To learn more about group tour specifications, or to reserve an upcoming package from The Jewish Museum please call 212-423-3225.
The Jewish Museums Permanent Collection
The Jewish Museum currently features one gigantic permanent exhibition dedicated to showcasing a large chunk of the organizations in-house collection. This exhibition, which is entitled Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey, represents one of the worlds most complete depictions of Jewish artistic culture and historical relevancy. Composed of over 4,000 years of Jewish memorabilia, Culture and Continuity traces the dynamic interaction between tradition, historical events and alternate cultures. Housed on two separate floors of the museum, Culture and Continuity features nearly 800 one-of-a-kind artifacts from across the country and around the world. An integral part of The Jewish Museums framework, Culture and Continuity examines the Jewish experience as it has evolved and changed throughout the ages. An exciting exhibit for travelers of all ages, Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey is always open, so be sure to stop in and experience it first hand during your upcoming AAMCAR New York Car Rental vacation!
