Century 21 is a discount department store located throughout the United States. The largest of these stores is found next to Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. This makes a great place to stop with your New York car rental for two very different New York activities.
Century 21 is famous for having deeply discounted designer merchandise and interestingly, was featured on an episode of Sex and the City. The store was established over 40 years ago. Over the years it has developed a reputation for fine merchandise and top-notch customer service.
Visiting Century 21 with your New York car rental will bring you to Zagat's #1 discount store in New York City. You to can support the downtown area with your bargain shopping here. Make sure you have plenty of room in the trunk of your New York car rental because you will leave with many bags at a fraction of the cost you would have paid at a designer store. It is also one of New York's best-kept secrets, although the secret is out now that it survived the attacks on the World Trade Center.
World Trade Center
The World Trade Center was built in the late 1960s and was completed in 1970. The center attracted a wide variety of tenants, although not all were involved in "world trade". In the 1980s there was a resurgence of the center and many Wall Street tenants moved in.
The first major attack on the World Trade Center was in 1993 where a Ryder truck with 1500 pounds of explosives were planted and detonated in an underground parking garage of the North Tower. It destroyed 4 sublevels of concrete, killed six people, and injured over 1000. Many people were forced to walk down dark stairwells with no emergency lighting. Some took hours to reach safety. After this happened, safety lights were installed and are believed to have saved many lives in the September 11th attacks. The people who were responsible for these acts were convicted in 1997 and 1998 and are serving life sentences in prison. It was thought that they wanted to send the North Tower crashing into the South Tower, destroying both.
Shook struck once again in September 2001. The morning started like any other beautiful September morning, with people going to work. Five years later there is a rebuilding of these towers and the spirit that they embodied. The World Trade Center Memorial is open here, and is a great place to visit with your New York car rental.
Century 21 is a must-see on your list of things to do with your New York car rental. You will not leave disappointed by the great discounts and products you will find here. There is much to see and do here, and you can spend hours combing through the racks to find that perfect piece before you head home in your New York car rental.
